About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Technical Officer to join our team at The University of Western Australia. As a key member of our RNA Innovation Facility, you will play a critical role in providing technical design and support for our synthetic biology and DNA workflow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to and support projects in RNA innovation with university researchers, research institutes, and industry partners.
  • Work closely with our team to conceptualise, design, and execute DNA/synthetic biology aspects of the mRNA production workflow.
  • Develop and implement various molecular biology methodologies and genomic techniques, including DNA extraction, plasmid modification, PCR, and sequencing.
  • Collaborate with our team to troubleshoot experimental procedures and provide technical support as needed.
Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in molecular biology, biotechnology, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and high-level proficiency in molecular biology, PCR, RNA and DNA handling, DNA/RNA library construction chemistries, and sequencing technologies.
  • Experience in safety management and procedures, including laboratory-based settings and regulations on chemical/biological environment, health and safety, and chemical handling.
  • Well-developed technical skills and problem-solving capability to assist with troubleshooting experimental procedures.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including experience in technical writing for Standard Operating Procedures, manuals, and quality documentation.
