Job Role: Chair

The Chair will be responsible for the smooth operation of SPG meetings, ensuring that all members' viewpoints are taken into consideration during the decision-making process.

The Chair will:

  • Agree upon working protocols with SPG members
  • Settle on the forward plan and meeting agenda for SPG gatherings
  • Preside over SPG meetings
  • Confirm decisions and subsequent actions arising from group discussions
  • Finalize partnership communiques emanating from SPG meetings

The Chair will facilitate SPG gatherings and ensure active participation from all members in the discussion.

The Chair will refrain from exercising any independent policy or decision-making authority beyond the roles described above.

Key skills and expertise include leadership, organizational governance, risk management, communication skills, meeting facilitation, partnership building, strategic thinking, problem-solving, integrity, and respect.

Experience as a chair and/or organizational leader is also required, along with knowledge of family violence and child, young person, and family wellbeing issues.

The Chair must not be a Victorian Government executive involved in the management of The Orange Door, nor an executive or board member of a community service organization or an ACCO/ACCHO that is a partner in The Orange Door.

The appointment of the Chair will also be subject to government probity requirements.

In addition to preparation and scheduled meetings, the Chair will meet individually with group members as part of their induction and annually thereafter.

Some travel may be necessary within Victoria, as meetings may be held at various locations throughout the state.
