We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Legal Officer to join our Corporate Legal Branch in the Department of Veterans' Affairs.

About the Role

The successful candidate will provide strategic, accurate, clear, helpful, and timely legal advice and services to departmental clients in commercial, property, and/or employment law matters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality legal advice and services to departmental clients
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with colleagues in Legal and business areas, and with external stakeholders
  • Supervising, mentoring, and coaching junior staff
  • Managing, or providing support in managing, a team to ensure delivery of quality legal services
  • Supporting leadership of the Branch and Division, including through promoting a positive working environment
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree (or equivalent) from a recognised Australian tertiary education provider
  • Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia and possession of, or eligibility to obtain, a practising certificate
