Executive Legal Advisor Opportunity

The Commonwealth Government is seeking a highly skilled Senior Executive Officer to join their Legal Services Group. This role requires the implementation of complex executive support and the exercise of high levels of discretion, judgement, and professionalism.

This candidate will use their legal expertise to evaluate communications flowing into the Chief Counsel Office. The successful candidate will be accountable for coordinating the development and preparation of high-quality legal advice for various ministerial, parliamentary, and media correspondence.

Key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the development and preparation of high-quality legal advice for various ministerial, parliamentary, and media correspondence.
  • Review the legal advice prepared by the Group, ensuring that legal risk has been identified, recorded, and assessed.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Chief Counsel and stakeholders to ensure that priority matters are actioned appropriately.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and proof complex or sensitive correspondence, including corporate documentation, submissions, talking points, briefing papers, and senior committee papers, as well as legal advice.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in law and admission as a legal practitioner are required.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating the development, preparation, and review of high-quality legal advice for various ministerial, parliamentary, and media correspondence.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to exercise sound judgement, and highly developed administrative, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide support with the highest degree of integrity and discretion.
