Job Description

The Deputy Director of Nursing is a leadership role that oversees the coordination and management of the nursing directorate. This individual will be responsible for ensuring that hospital objectives are met through effective leadership and direction.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide professional and operational leadership in all facets of nursing and midwifery service and practice.
  • Coordinate and support quality improvement and risk management, accreditation, and licensing processes.
  • Oversight of various teams including Quality & Risk, Hospice, Emergency Department, ICU/CCU, Maternity Services, Outpatient Services, Specialist Nurses, Cancer Centre, and Oncology Inpatient Ward.
Required Skills and Qualifications

This position requires a strong leader with high-level conceptual and analytical skills, advanced oral and written communication ability. The ideal candidate should have senior management experience and leadership in an acute hospital facility, essential for achieving National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards Accreditation and Department of Health Licensing.

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse with postgraduate qualifications in Nursing, Management, or relevant discipline, or progression towards.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate quality programs to ensure nursing care is monitored against best practice standards.
  • Prepare annual capital and operating budgets for the nursing directorate and ensure financial and productivity targets are met.
  • Investigate variance in financial performance against budget and develop corrective strategies.
  • Lead caregivers in building a culture of professionalism, accountability, and quality service.
  • Promote continuing professional development of nursing staff and others within the directorate.
  • Participate in clinical and non-clinical committees within and externally to the hospital.
