About SLR and the Role
SLR is an international environmental consultancy with a globally recognized reputation for providing high-quality tailored services. We are seeking an experienced Ecologist to join our team in Perth, where you will work with a friendly and collaborative team to deliver excellent results.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in ecological consulting, with experience in SRE invertebrate surveys and report production. You will be confident in your technical ability and have a positive attitude to work in a busy environment, with a strong focus on client service and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality service and advice to clients and colleagues, in both office-based and fieldwork activities.
- Participate in field survey programs to collect ecological data, focusing on SRE invertebrates.
- Interpret and apply environmental legislation and technical guidance to projects across various sectors.
- Develop technical reports detailing the outcomes of field survey programs and implications for environmental impact assessment and management.
- Assist in preparing tenders and proposals.
- Integrate your technical work into multidisciplinary assessments and project teams.
- Make independent studies, analyses, interpretations, conclusions, and decisions, and prepare reports outlining the findings of these studies.
- Travel to remote areas, including interstate, to conduct field survey programs.
- Train junior staff in collection and processing of SRE invertebrate specimens.
Requirements
- An appropriate tertiary qualification in Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Resources, or a related field.
- 2-6+ years' experience in an ecological role in the environmental consulting sector or an equivalent role in government or academia, including undertaking SRE invertebrate surveys and report production.
- Experience in the design and implementation of SRE invertebrate field surveys and monitoring programs.
- Excellent SRE invertebrate identification skills.
- Experience in preparing invertebrate specimens for submission to taxonomic experts and the WA Museum.
- Mature report writing and computer skills, with demonstrated ability to prepare high-quality written material for publication.
- Proven ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
- Proven project management experience in relation to client management and budget control.
Desired Experience
- Experience in the interpretation of molecular data for invertebrate species identification.
- Experience with subterranean fauna survey and reporting.
