Job Title: Environmental Compliance Officer

About the Role

This is a pivotal position within our organisation, focusing on the development, implementation and management of environmental compliance systems and controls.

The primary responsibility of this role lies in environmental and planning compliance within our waste management division, encompassing landfill operations, transfer stations, and other council-managed contaminated or potentially contaminated land sites.

  • Familiarity with policies and procedures relating to waste and environmental management, coupled with the ability to apply them effectively in operational contexts, is essential for this position.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting contractor coordination and contributing to compliance-related activities will be highly valued.
  • A strong understanding of health and safety issues pertinent to work activities and work areas is necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of comprehensive written reports, are crucial for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include assisting in the improvement of initiatives, contributing to project delivery under supervision, and ensuring adherence to relevant health and safety protocols.

This position requires a deep understanding of environmental management principles, as well as the ability to interpret and implement relevant policies and procedures.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess:

  • Relevant work experience in waste management, environmental monitoring programs, and rehabilitation plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to support contractor coordination and contribute to compliance-related activities.
  • Familiarity with policies and procedures relating to waste and environmental management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience in preparation of written reports.
  • Understanding of health and safety issues relevant to work activities and work area.

Please note that experience in the environmental industry and local government is highly desirable for this position.
