Job Opportunity

The Associate Lecturer in Optometry plays a pivotal role in shaping the optometry curriculum, focusing on the Clinical Residential Placement (CRP) program, virtual international placements, and the Deakin Collaborative Eye Care Clinic (DCECC).

Main Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to all aspects of the optometry curriculum.
  • Develop placement opportunities for students through collaborations with industry partners, international teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide patient care and supervise student placements primarily within DCECC, with occasional travel to other clinical sites for teaching and assessment.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a clinical teaching team to deliver clinical learning materials and activities, guided by the Head of Clinical Placements and the Clinic Director/Unit Chairs, to enhance the student learning experience and outcomes.

To succeed, applicants will possess:

  • A high level of clinical optometry experience, preferably with a strong interest or clinical experience in ocular surface disease, along with an emerging record of passion for learning and teaching.
  • An Optometry qualification (e.g. BOptom, MOptom, OD)
  • Current registration with the Optometry Board of Australia/AHPRA, enabling practice of optometry in Australia
  • Endorsement to prescribe scheduled medicines in Australia
  • Recent comprehensive clinical practice experience with proven interest/experience in ocular surface disease/dry eye disease
