Job Overview

We are seeking a Building Compliance Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that buildings and places are safe and compliant with regulatory requirements.

The role involves carrying out inspections, associated enforcement of buildings and site works, undertaking proactive inspections of swimming pool barriers, initiating compliance action, and formally representing the City in Court where required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting regular site visits to inspect buildings and sites
  • Verifying compliance with building codes, regulations and standards
  • Investigating complaints and reporting defects or non-compliance
  • Liaising with property owners, managers, and tenants to resolve issues
  • Preparing reports and recommendations for enforcement action as necessary
Requirements:
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in building surveying, engineering or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in development compliance work and/or building surveying
  • Sound understanding of building construction methods and materials suitable for residential and commercial buildings and structures
  • Working knowledge of the National Construction Code of Australia and state building legislation
