Job Summary

The Horticulturist will be responsible for maintaining and improving the Council's parks, gardens, and landscaped areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain diverse garden areas including annuals, native and non-native species, high-profile spaces, and other landscaped areas in accordance with service requirements and programs.
  • Provide recommendations for mulching, watering, maintenance, embellishment, and improvement as required.
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Conduct regular risk and hazard assessments of all areas under control and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Identify, report, and rectify landscape deficiencies, particularly in garden and landscape area maintenance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including management, staff, customers, and the community, to provide expert advice and support as needed.
  • Efficiently manage workload and ensure timely completion of tasks and projects.
Requirements:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in horticulture or a related field.
  • Current Class C driver's license.
  • Chemical users accreditation certificate or equivalent.
  • Experience in garden maintenance and relevant skills to fulfill the role's responsibilities and requirements.
