The Public Works Labourer will be responsible for maintaining public grounds, sidewalks, streets and roads.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and cleaning sidewalks, streets, roads and public grounds
- Spreading sand or salt on sidewalks for snow or ice control to ensure pedestrian safety
- Assisting equipment operators in securing attachments to heavy machinery or vehicles
- Participating in routine maintenance and repair of heavy equipment
- Loading and unloading trucks with supplies and equipment as needed
- Cleaning streets, sidewalks, building grounds and other areas by sweeping debris and removing snow and loading it into carts or trucks
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate is required
- 1 year to less than 2 years of experience in a similar role
- Working at heights may be necessary
- Noisy environment due to heavy machinery
- Outdoors work in various weather conditions
- Cold/refrigerated work environments may apply
- Wet/damp work conditions may arise
- Bending, crouching, kneeling are essential
- A combination of sitting, standing, walking is required
- Physically demanding work is expected
- Repetitive tasks are part of the job
- Mobile sidewalk cleaners operation is required
