About the Role:

The NHVR is seeking a skilled GIS Support Officer to join our team. As a GIS Support Officer, you will be responsible for analysing and assessing spatial data in the form of network maps, identifying key differences between two similar maps, and ensuring they are aligned.

This role involves working with QGIS, Spreadsheets, and tracking mechanisms to ensure workflow processes are recorded, maximise quality, and accuracy. You will also conflate (migrate) a set of network maps from a State or Territory map to the NHVR map using automated tools and sophisticated manual tools, one State or Territory at a time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse roads, networks, and structure data, and ensure that this spatial data is correct.
  • Use OpenStreetMap when required to ensure the accuracy of roads, road names, road geometry, bridge and structures, third-party assets, and other important network-related data.
  • Update Road Ownership details where required using our Road Ownership tools.
  • Report through to a GIS Specialist overseeing a particular jurisdiction or data set, or the Technical Lead.
  • Be able to take a piece of work, manage it accordingly, and meet deadlines.
About You:

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Proficiency or familiarity with tools such as QGIS, OpenStreetMap, and ArcGIS.
  • Ability to build Network Maps using QGIS tools and our in-house spatial mapping solutions.
  • Broad understanding of geospatial concepts and understand GIS terminology.
  • Adept at building road features and geometry in OpenStreetMap (OSM).
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and lateral thinking with strong attention to detail.
