Senior Commercial Manager

About the Role:
The Senior Commercial Manager will play a crucial role in the management and oversight of commercial aspects across the Sydney Metro West project. This position demands a strong understanding of contract law, financial management, and risk assessment within the civil engineering sector.
Reporting to the Commercial Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for maximising project profitability, managing contractual relationships, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing and managing project forecasts, monitoring expenditures, and implementing cost control measures to ensure financial targets are met.
- Management of contractor disputes, working closely with the finance team to prepare month-end whole of project forecasts and financial reports.
- Mentoring the Commercial Team on industry best practice and encouraging staff to develop their current skillset, implementing effective cost control processes and practices.
- Evaluation of variation claims prepared by the commercial team prior to issuing assessments for review and approval under the delegation of authority, managing compliance and preparing reports on commercial performance of the project.
- Working knowledge of the common law, state and federal regulations, and statutes as it relates to commercial issues, providing strategic guidance to project teams, fostering a collaborative and legally sound environment.
- Leading on monitoring and steering outcomes for high-risk/value claims and disputes, ensuring positive strategies and resolutions.
About You:
- Degree in Law, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or Business-related degree.
- Minimum 10 years' commercial/contract management experience in major large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of principles of contract management, experience of contract management, and stakeholder engagement with practical experience.
- Previous major project Joint Venture experience is desirable, with strong understanding of principles of contract management, experience of contract management, and stakeholder engagement with practical experience.
- Estimating, quantity survey, procurement, and contracts management.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word, well-honed and able to manage competing deadlines.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders.
