We're seeking a visionary Principal Data Engineer to spearhead the design, development, and scaling of our Databricks architecture.

The Role

This strategic hire will drive innovation by designing and implementing robust data ingestion frameworks, creating reusable patterns for ingesting data from various sources.

You'll define data modelling standards, leading the evaluation and implementation of our core data modelling paradigm.

Implement governance and security using Unity Catalog, establishing fine-grained access controls, data lineage tracking, and a business-friendly data catalogue.

Manage platform performance by developing strategies for monitoring and optimising Databricks cluster usage and cloud spend.

Instil a culture of engineering excellence, implementing CI/CD pipelines for data, championing Git-based workflows, and building a data quality firewall.

Act as a strategic partner to the business, translating business needs into technical solutions, guiding analytical best practice, and serving as the technical authority.

Lead, mentor, and grow our technical capability, mentoring analysts, establishing a community of practice, and shaping the future team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data Ingestion Frameworks: Design and implement robust Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) on Databricks, leveraging Delta Lake for reliability and performance.
  • Data Modelling Standards: Define data modelling standards, leading the evaluation and implementation of our core data modelling paradigm.
  • Governance and Security: Implement governance and security using Unity Catalog, establishing fine-grained access controls, data lineage tracking, and a business-friendly data catalogue.
  • Platform Performance: Manage platform performance by developing strategies for monitoring and optimising Databricks cluster usage and cloud spend.
