About the Role

The Australian Red Cross Young Parents Program is seeking an Occupational Therapist to support young parents and their children in developing independent parenting and living skills. The successful candidate will work with young parents and their children to improve child development and parenting outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, develop, and deliver child and young person-focused assessments and interventions, taking into consideration the complexities experienced by young parents engaged in the program.
  • Work with young parents and their children to improve child development and parenting outcomes, including coordinating and delivering parent education sessions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with young parents, their children, and other stakeholders to ensure the best possible outcomes for children.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of program strategies and initiatives to support young parents and their children.

What You Will Bring

  • Qualifications in Occupational Therapy with a minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience, or other relevant qualifications, skills, and experience that demonstrate equivalence to this standard.
  • Sound discipline knowledge gained through experience, training, or education in the implementation and coordination of child development interventions/strategies.
  • Sound knowledge and/or experience using ASQ and ASQ;SE and other tools to monitor and evaluate child development outcomes.
  • Sound knowledge and/or experience with NDIS functional assessments and application process.
  • Experience working with parents to improve parenting and child development outcomes (individually and in groups).
  • Practical experience in delivery of parent education, including Circle of Security and/or other parent/child attachment programs.
  • Experience working with marginalized people in the community.
  • Experience working competently with staff and clients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds with respect and humility.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office tools, such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Registered on the Residential Care Workers Register.
  • Whooping cough vaccination.
  • Working with Children Check.
  • Driver's license.
