The Role
This pivotal position involves Java development aimed at enhancing the digital experience for Auto & General's clientele. You will be responsible for creating applications that enable customers to purchase and manage their insurance policies online, while also aiding in the development of internal tools that support our operational needs.
Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing highly available and reliable Java microservices hosted on AWS, which are essential to our business. You will collaborate within a cross-functional agile team, supported by a product owner and Scrum master. All software is developed through agile methodologies and deployed via a modern DevOps/CI pipeline to AWS. This role also encompasses team leadership responsibilities, working closely with developers and the Development Manager to ensure the successful delivery of substantial projects. Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement tailored solutions to meet sprint objectives and deliver value to business partners.
- Utilize your expertise to guide solution designs and the development of our contemporary architecture.
- Assist in the establishment of our CI/CD pipeline and AWS deployment framework.
- Take ownership of the product and contribute innovative ideas for improvement.
- Establish and uphold best practices in testing, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
- Collaborate effectively within a cross-functional Agile team, contributing to development, deployment, and support tasks as necessary.
- Inspire fellow developers in your role as a team leader.
- Manage relationships effectively with the Development Manager and your team, ensuring appropriate escalations occur.
- Foster engagement with planned and emerging work initiatives.
- Perform other relevant activities as requested to meet operational needs.
Required Experience
Essential:
- Extensive experience in building, deploying, maintaining, and supporting software applications.
- Proficient in Java programming.
- Expertise in Spring Boot and Spring Cloud Microservices frameworks.
- Strong knowledge and application of SQL and ORM technologies.
- Experience with technical documentation, including high-level and low-level designs, UML diagrams, user guides, and system documentation.
- Familiarity with application and system monitoring tools.
- Experience with AWS Developer Tools and ecosystem, as well as Cloud deployment using Docker.
- Proficient in the Atlassian suite of products, including JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
- Commitment to software application security standards.
- Ability to mentor others and share knowledge for the benefit of the team.
Desirable:
- Experience with GitLab DevOps Platform.
- Background in financial services applications is advantageous.
