About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Scientist - Automated Biochemistry Specialist. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing solid diagnostic skills in biochemistry, with a strong understanding of quality assurance systems.
  • Ensuring all work practices and procedures comply with NATA/TGA/NPACC regulations.
  • Working with multiple instrument platforms and manual techniques to achieve accurate results.
  • Providing sound experience with laboratory-based analytical tasks, method validation and verification, as well as clinical result validation and interpretation.
  • Contributing to routine internal quality control and external quality assurance procedures.
  • Developing a solid grounding in pathology-based IT and quality systems.
  • Providing exceptional communication and problem-solving skills to drive results.
  • Showing commitment to achieving challenging goals by demonstrating a high level of personal motivation and application of expertise.

About You

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise, and skills within the respective discipline.
  • Solid knowledge of QC, QAP, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience validating and reporting patient results.
  • Experience liaising with pathologists and other relevant health professionals.
  • Experience with biochemistry instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
  • Ability to perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision.
  • Outstanding commitment to quality and excellence.
  • Willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures.
  • Positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member.
  • Strong time management, interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department-specific vaccine preventative diseases.
