Job Overview

The role of Maintenance Team Lead involves undertaking a broad spectrum of maintenance and civil construction activities, including road construction, signage installation, drainage management, footpath maintenance, heavy patching, bridgework, culvert reconstruction, kerb and gutter repair.

Main Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of construction and maintenance tasks on signs, carparks, retaining walls, roads, footpaths, bridges, stormwater systems, culverts, and kerb and gutter infrastructure.
  • Coordinate operations of plant and labour forces for various construction and maintenance works.
  • Interpret complex civil plans, work requirements, and coordinate materials and plant resources.
  • Maintain assigned plant and tools to support operational activities.
  • Develop and implement construction planning and scheduling strategies to meet team objectives, including traffic control, pre-site establishment, and labour duties.
  • Provide technical guidance, advice, and assistance to team members, focusing on solution-driven outcomes.
  • Establish and enforce safety standards in accordance with the WHS Act, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Promote environmentally responsible practices within Council's environmental policies and procedures.
  • Lead staff performance through active coaching, mentoring, and setting clear expectations, while working collaboratively to achieve assigned duties.
  • Foster a positive and harmonious work environment, encouraging a 'can-do' attitude among team members.
  • Utilize technology-based systems for construction and maintenance activities, records management, and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in responding to changing work priorities and directions.
  • Support Coordinator, Program Leader, and Manager in other duties as directed, aligning with individual skills, competencies, and training.
Key Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven experience in maintenance and construction management, preferably in a similar context.
  • Strong understanding of civil construction methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills, with ability to motivate and coach staff.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with capacity to interpret complex plans and specifications.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work in varied outdoor environments.
