Electrical Design Specialist

We are seeking experienced electrical design professionals to join our team in support of a major submarine program.

The successful applicants will apply their knowledge to perform electrical design and drafting activities, covering various systems within the submarine.

This role requires a current national police clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and access to protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality electrical design and drafting tasks to meet agreed commitments.
  • Undertake design activities in accordance with industry standards, ensuring engineering outputs comply with established processes.
  • Produce detailed electrical outputs including cable block diagrams, schematics, termination diagrams, cable installation schedules, panel layouts/arrangements and parts/equipment lists.
  • Assist with the selection of suitable electrical components for design, installation and manufacture.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to colleagues, sharing technical knowledge to support growth and capability.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and departments to deliver engineering products and services.
  • Regularly update tasks, escalate blockages and ensure alignment with project priorities and objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in relation to cost, schedule and quality.

Requirements:

  • All levels of experience considered (Entry level to Senior).
  • A tertiary qualification in a related Engineering discipline is highly regarded.
  • Trade experience/qualification is advantageous.
  • A degree in a related Engineering field is desirable.
  • Experience in designing and integrating complex electrical systems, preparation of production level drawings and documentation.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD to produce 2D drawings is favourable.
  • Experience in control panel/switchboard design is an additional benefit.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Adaptability to manage multiple design activities concurrently while delivering work on time and within budget.
  • Proven experience leading a team of designers and engineers to manage complex engineering project deliverables (required for Senior Level).
  • Knowledge of configuration systems and their role in the design process.
