We are pleased to offer two PhD scholarships as part of an innovative research project titled "The African Diaspora and Pentecostalism in Australia."

This groundbreaking study aims to explore the challenges faced by African-Australian communities, determine why many community members join Pentecostal churches, and investigate how these churches support translocal and transnational mobility and sense of belonging.

The PhD candidates will conduct ethnographic research with Pentecostal churches in Australia and with African Diasporas, examining topics such as settlement processes, religious fields, and post-secular social landscapes.

Strong interests in the intersections of migration and religion are essential. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, including anthropology, sociology, religious studies, African studies, migration studies, or related fields.

Candidates of African heritage are especially encouraged to apply.

  • Research Objectives:
