Guidance Officer - Student Wellbeing

The Department of Education is seeking to employ Guidance Officers - Student Wellbeing as part of its commitment to expanding the wellbeing workforce under the Student Wellbeing Package initiative.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identification, support and therapeutic intervention planning for students' mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
  • Provide advice and counselling on educational, behavioural, vocational, personal, social, family and mental health and wellbeing issues for students with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
  • Ensure safety plans are implemented in the school context for students who are self-harming and/or at risk of suicide.
  • Support promotion, prevention, awareness and capability building regarding mental health and wellbeing within the school community and leadership teams.
  • Collect relevant data including pre- and post-intervention data from students and their families regarding the student's mental health and overall functioning.
Requirements:
  • Current full registration as a teacher in Queensland.
  • Teachers working in Education and Care Services require an exemption card issued by Blue Card Services.
  • One of the following qualifications:
    • Completed coursework Masters majoring in guidance and counselling or an equivalent completed coursework Masters including study in psychoeducational assessment, counselling and mental health.
    • General or provisional registration as a psychologist through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Psychology Board.
    • an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four or five year qualification in psychology that enables general registration as a psychologist after completion of a board approved internship or accredited sequence of study.

The Guidance Officer - Student Wellbeing will be supervised by a Senior Guidance Officer and further supported by the Student Wellbeing team and State Schools - Operations (central office).
