About the Role

The Department of Home Affairs is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Maritime Asset Availability and Capability Superintendent. This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Australian Border Force's (ABF) maritime surveillance assets, ensuring their availability and capability to meet the needs of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team to manage the operational availability of maritime assets, including vessels and surveillance aircraft.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve asset utilization and reduce downtime.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including the Maritime Border Command and the Australian Maritime Border Operations Centre, to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
  • Manage performance metrics and reporting to ensure the effectiveness of maritime surveillance operations.
  • Act as the Designated Person, responsible for ensuring the safety and pollution prevention aspects of maritime operations.
  • Support investigations into transport safety incidents and review of other maritime events.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in maritime operations and management, with a strong understanding of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code and related safety management systems.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address complex issues.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Navigation Act 2012 and the Maritime Powers Act (Cth) 2012.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of adaptability and flexibility.
