Telcommunications Technician

Description:

The Telcommunications Technician is a pivotal role in our organization, responsible for the installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment and systems. This involves working at heights on mobile phone base station structures to install antennas, feeders, and ancillary equipment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Installation of antenna mounts on rooftops, poles, and towers using ropes, winches, and rigging equipment
  • Collaboration with cranes, cherry pickers, and EWPs as required to carry out works on site
  • Execution of manual labor of various descriptions to complete the works as required
  • Rigging techniques to install steelwork on structures, including climbing monopoles, towers, and guyed masts with 100% attachment at all times
  • Installation of feeder RF cables and hybrid
  • Termination of communication cables of various types and sizes, assistance with testing cables for compliance with specifications
  • Installation of earth kits and waterproofing of connectors
  • Installation of earth systems
  • Labelling and tagging identification on feeders and tails
  • Installation of hybrid fiber cable for RRU equipment
  • Maintenance of daily records of activities and times
  • Responsibility for technical duties on site, including installation, commissioning, and integration of RAN, TX, and Microwave equipment on site to vendor and client specifications
  • Performance of call testing, performance monitoring, and other acceptance testing as per vendor and client requirements
  • Assistance with the installation of microwave antenna and outdoor systems
  • Completion of antenna sweeps for PIM, Distance-to-Fault (DTF), Standing Wave Ratio (SWR), and Return Loss (RL) for antenna systems to ensure specifications are within limits
  • Troubleshooting, fault finding, defect rectification works as required to provide a quality product to the client
  • Inspection and maintenance of tools and equipment, ensuring test equipment is maintained within calibration dates
