
Rural Mental Health Professional

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated professional to deliver outreach mental health support to farmers, their families, and rural communities affected by prolonged drought across Port Lincoln and the Eyre and Far North region.
- Provide counselling to individuals and families experiencing stress and mental health challenges related to drought.
- Develop and maintain trust-based relationships with farmers, local leaders, and community groups, and collaborate with local stakeholders to understand community needs and priorities.
- Facilitate group sessions focused on stress management, resilience, and peer support tailored to rural community needs.
- Collaborate with local service providers to coordinate holistic care and strengthen referral pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver brief, trauma-informed counselling interventions to individuals and families experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges related to drought.
- Provide crisis support to individuals in acute distress, including those at risk of self-harm or suicide, and facilitate referrals to emergency services when necessary.
- Engage with and maintain relationships with farmers, local leaders, and community groups, and collaborate with local stakeholders to understand community needs and priorities.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve mental health outcomes for rural communities.
Required Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or other health-related field.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering mental health support in rural or agricultural settings.
- Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practices, mental health recovery, and care coordination.
- Ability to work independently across a regional area.
