About the Role

The APS is seeking a highly skilled Fitter Armourer to join our team at Joint Proof and Experimental Unit (JPEU). As a key member of our Workshop Team, you will provide essential technical support and advice, with a focus on armaments.

Your responsibilities will include executing trade-specific tasks such as turning, welding, and fitting, as well as inspecting, servicing, and repairing armaments to ensure operational integrity and safety.

You will also be responsible for managing repair and maintenance schedules to align with firing programs, issuing SG 84 Certificates for Fitness to Fire, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

In addition, you will contribute to the design of weapon platform modifications and the development of competency records.

About Our Team

The Workshop Team is critical to the success of our Test and Evaluation activities, providing the necessary resources for static weapon mounted munitions, mobile weapon platforms, and ballistic protection trials.

We utilize advanced systems such as ballistic tracking radar, high-speed video cameras, and associated equipment to track projectiles or capture data when explosive ordnance is dynamically fired or statically tested.

P&EE Port Wakefield offers a range of facilities, including a swimming pool, sauna, basketball and tennis courts, gym, and Rangers Tavern for events and functions.

Employment at Port Wakefield includes a Special Defence Locality Assistance allowance.

Requirements

The successful candidate must be able to work on an explosive ordnance Test and Evaluation firing range and be competent in providing support to various teams in the conduct of maintenance and repair of unique test equipment.

They will also be able to interpret and comply with written instructions, work within a Quality Management System, and demonstrate compliance with Work Health Safety Act and Regulations.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, as part of a team, or under limited direction within a diverse team in a highly variable environment.

They will also be able to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of JPEU to achieve business outcomes.
