A collaboration between Gamuda Australia and Laing O'Rourke has been awarded a contract to initiate tunneling on the Sydney Metro West project.

The Gamuda Australia Laing O'Rourke Consortium is seeking a dedicated Safety Specialist to implement and drive an accountable and positive safety culture on site, specifically supporting our mined tunneling team.

About the role

  • Support the project set up, including creating required documentation and processes for planning areas of work.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure proactive engagement and compliance.
  • Prepare presentations and training materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide project leaders, site supervisors, and workers with specialist guidance and advocate for positive work health and safety change.
  • Monitor and provide advice and training for compliance to support the effective implementation of WHS legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Advocate for the facilitation of work health and safety procedures and programs through mentoring and coaching staff.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety.
  • Strong understanding of current health and safety legislation, procedures, processes, and best practices.
  • Well-developed people management skills that encourage staff to perform at optimum levels without compromising on standards.
  • Proven experience working on Tier 1 projects; TBM tunnelling experience is highly advantageous.
