Teaching Opportunity for First Nations Academic

The Macquarie Medical School within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences is seeking a suitably qualified First Nations academic to lead the development, coordination, and delivery of teaching related to the history, culture, traditional/contemporary knowledge, and health of First Nations peoples.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver teaching programs that promote First Nations cultural awareness, respect, and cultural responsiveness within a framework of cultural safety.
  • Teach key aspects of history and culture and their connection to current health issues affecting First Nations peoples.
  • Use strength-based approaches and communication as counters to problem-based perspectives of First Nations health.
  • Teach First Nations perspectives on health and healing, and what can be learned from First Nations approaches.
  • Foster partnerships and engagement for community-led change and co-design.

Requirements:

  • A strong teaching and research record in Medical/Health Education.
  • Academic experience and work in health or related roles, such as an Aboriginal health worker, liaison officer, or clinician.
  • Passion for education in First Nations culture, history, and health.
