Financial Reporting Team Manager - Melbourne or Sydney

Ambition is seeking an experienced Financial Reporting Team Manager to lead our Client Accounting group, overseeing monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual financial reporting, regulatory submissions, and tax reporting for a diverse portfolio of investment managers and superannuation fund clients. As the primary escalation point for client inquiries, you will build strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs to ensure all expectations are met while fostering trust and collaboration.

This role reports to the Head of Financial Reporting and Tax and offers opportunities to manage the financial reporting and tax aspects of onboarding new clients, working closely with cross-functional teams. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading financial reporting processes within the Client Accounting group.
  • Overseeing performance management, career development, staffing decisions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert, guiding team activities and delivering technical expertise.
  • Providing insights to internal stakeholders on business trends, challenges, operational changes, and strategic directions.
  • Collaborating with various departments to identify automation opportunities and providing systems support.
  • Delivering hands-on training to team members to enhance their skillsets.
  • Setting short-term priorities, organizing team workflows, and ensuring timely, accurate task completion.
  • Contributing to budget management and overseeing compliance and risk management programs for your team.
  • Operating with a high degree of independence, balancing strategic planning and operational execution.

About You

We're looking for someone with strong leadership and organizational abilities to set and achieve goals while motivating team members. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. You should have advanced functional and industry knowledge in accounting and tax within custodians, superannuation funds, or investment management, as well as proficient analytical and problem-solving skills. Expertise in accounting and tax principles related to Managed Investment Schemes (MISs) and superannuation funds is also required.

In-depth understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and Tax Rules as they apply to MISs, superannuation funds, and various asset types, knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements, including APRA, ABS, BAS, and PAYG, and advanced Excel skills are necessary. A degree-qualified background in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance, ideally holding CA or CPA certification, is highly desirable. Prior experience managing a small to medium-sized team is also preferred.
