Trainee Linesperson

About the Role

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is seeking dedicated and safety-conscious individuals to join our team as Trainee Linespersons. This role offers an exciting opportunity to start a career in railway maintenance, where you'll work alongside experienced Linespersons to support the upkeep and operation of Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) within our electrified railway network.

As a Trainee Linesperson, you'll assist with tasks like operating high-voltage sticks, cleaning insulators, and conducting line patrols. After training, you'll also use Elevated Work Platforms (EWP). Under supervision, you'll maintain tools and equipment, ensure work sites are safe, and follow safety procedures. You'll also drive light vehicles, use diagrams and manuals, communicate via two-way radios, and perform other tasks as needed.

About You

To excel in this role, you should possess:

• Sound numeracy and literacy skills, mechanical aptitude, and experience with hand and power tools. Must hold a current Western Australian 'C' Class Driver's Licence or equivalent.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities with a proven ability to work effectively in a team.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills, commitment to safety, reliability, and the ability to work independently with initiative.
• Willingness to work at heights (up to 10 meters), flexibility to work various shifts, and the ability to work across any location on PTA's urban rail network.

Training and Development:

Successful candidates must meet the requirements of the Linesperson Pathway Program or equivalent. The following accreditations are mandatory and must be obtained within 6 months of appointment:

1. Level 1:
   
   • Working at Heights accreditation
   • Construction Industry White Card
2. Level 2
   
   • Elevated Work Platform Accreditation

This is a pool recruitment process where suitable applicants will be placed in a pool for 12 months from which permanent or fixed-term appointments with the possibility of further extension(s) and/or permanency will be made.
