Job Summary

This is a unique opportunity to work as a Bushfire Mitigation Officer – First Nations with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing bushfire mitigation strategies that enhance Indigenous governance systems for fire and biodiversity.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement bushfire risk mitigation plans in collaboration with Traditional Owners and their communities.
  • Lead community education initiatives on bushfire prevention and preparedness, including collaboration with brigade initiatives and community events.
  • Support the coordination and delivery of bushfire mitigation activities by Traditional Owners, rangers, brigades, and partners across the District.
  • Undertake local risk assessments and support the development of plans and strategies to reduce bushfire risk across the District.
  • Assist the Manager Bushfire Mitigation in managing the Fire Warden network and Permit to Light Fire system across the District.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A proven commitment to maintaining skills and connection with the land.
  • An understanding of Indigenous traditional fire management practices.
  • Experience working with volunteers and/or within a volunteer organisation.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
