About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our team at Virgin Australia. As a Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining our modern data platform.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement robust data pipelines and processes in Databricks to make critical business data available to other teams.
  • Manage and optimize data pipelines for performance, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Ingest data into our modern data platform, assemble large, complex datasets, and provide frameworks and services for operating on that data.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, such as automating manual processes and optimizing data delivery.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data requirements and provide effective solutions.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Understanding of data warehousing principles, including data structures, database design, modeling, metadata, dependency, and workload management.
  • Experience working with cloud-based, modern data platforms and Open Source Big Data tools.
  • Exposure to our current tech stack is desirable (Databricks, AWS, DBT with extensive experience with Python, PySpark, Terraform, SQL).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team or independently.
  • Strong ability to knowledge-share with the team.
