Job Opportunity

The Australian Federal Police is seeking a highly motivated and organized professional to join its Data Enrichment and Enterprise Prototyping section.

This role involves working with large volumes of data to identify, justify, and apply appropriate techniques, critically evaluating the benefits and value of developed solutions.

  • Providing expertise in data science and artificial intelligence disciplines
  • Evaluating problems to be solved and the need for data-driven solutions
  • Identifying and justifying data sources to use or acquire
  • Specifying and applying data science techniques and programming languages
  • Critically evaluating and reviewing the benefits and value of developed solutions

The selected candidate will work in cross-functional environments to co-develop technical standards, policies, and guidelines, and clearly defined roles and responsibilities that bring the AI lifecycle to life.

This position requires a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and probability modeling, as well as experience with programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL. The ideal candidate will have a firm grasp of machine learning fundamentals, including supervised and unsupervised learning, model selection and evaluation, and algorithms.

The successful applicant will integrate methods from mathematics, statistics, and probability modeling using specialized tools and techniques, source and prepare data for analysis, identify and validate internal and external data sets, develop predictive insights to create value and drive decision-making, and refine models over time to discover deeper insights.

The selected candidate will communicate complex data findings into clear and actionable insights, staying current with new technologies and methodologies.

The successful applicant will work effectively under limited direction, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality results.

This is an ongoing full-time position, requiring flexibility to work in Canberra/Sydney or other AFP offices in Australia. Opportunities to work remotely may be considered. The successful applicant will be required to travel occasionally to attend team events.
