Secure and Reliable Power System Operations Controller

At a time of unprecedented change in the energy sector, we have an exciting opportunity as a Power System Operations Controller at our offices.

About This Role
  • You will play a critical role in maintaining a secure and reliable power system by reporting to the Manager NEM RTO.
  • In this position, you will carry out real-time operational control of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and Interconnected National Electricity System, identifying risks and taking decisive action when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Work collaboratively as part of a team as required by the 24/7 shift roster, ensuring seamless communication and coordination among team members.
  2. Perform the real-time Dispatch, Voltage, and Security functions for designated regions of responsibility in accordance with established procedures and standards, guaranteeing high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  3. Undertake real-time monitoring, analysis, and control of the Interconnected National Electricity System to identify issues/violations, utilizing your analytical skills to resolve complex technical problems efficiently.
  4. Conduct complex computer-based network analysis to determine solutions and take timely action when necessary, always prioritizing the safe and reliable operation of the power system.
  5. Take prompt and decisive action following a contingency to ensure the power system remains in a satisfactory operating state and is promptly returned to a secure and reliable operating state, minimizing downtime and disruptions.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant work experience are essential for success in this role.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and maintain a high degree of organisation, coordination, and communication with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent interpretative and problem-solving skills, with an ability to make timely decisions to resolve complex technical issues based on a balance of analysis, wisdom, experience, and practical judgement, with and without precedents.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and concisely, both verbally and in written form.
