Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Sustainability Research Scientist to join our dynamic team at the forefront of sustainable industrial processes. This exciting opportunity is part of the Heavy Industry Low Carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC) projects, where you will play a crucial role in driving innovation and contributing to a greener future.

Job Description

This role involves leading research efforts in life cycle assessment (LCA) for certification and verification processes, enabling successful Low Carbon Transition (LCT) for heavy industry. You will contribute to LCA projects concerning intermediate products exports for the Australia-China green steel initiative, develop decarbonization pathways for iron ore/steel, alumina, and cement industries, and collaborate with cross-functional teams, industry partners, and stakeholders to develop cutting-edge solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-depth research, data analysis, and report writing to support project objectives.
  • Present findings as required by the Head of School, representing the HILT CRC projects.
Requirements
  • A background in Chemical Engineering, Mining and Mineral Process Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, or a related field.
  • A PhD degree or submitted thesis for examination.
  • Demonstrated relevant subject/discipline knowledge and experience in relevant research techniques.
  • Demonstrated competency in qualitative and quantitative research tasks.
  • An emerging research track record/potential to conduct quality research and contribute to research teams under supervision.
  • High level organisational skills and communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to developing a collegial and supportive working environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in conducting life cycle assessments (LCA).
  • Published papers on decarbonisation, low carbon technologies, and sustainable assessment-related areas.
Compensation and Benefits

Our competitive remuneration package includes an estimated salary of $95,000 - $120,000 per annum, generous leave entitlements, flexible working arrangements, and a comprehensive benefits program.
