Job Description

We are seeking a skilled mechanical engineer to join our team in Exmouth, Western Australia. As a leading provider of mission critical systems operations and engineering services, we play a vital role in supporting the Defence mission.

  • Leverage your expertise to assist our engineering team with issues associated with the VLF facility and interfaces to the VLF mission systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting risk assessments of mechanical / structural hazards, regulatory compliance and proposing solutions. They will also need to communicate effectively with stakeholders and ensure timely resolution of defects and design or maintenance deficiencies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the on-site VLF facility subject matter expert by providing mechanical system expertise
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments of mechanical/structural hazards, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and proposing corrective actions
  • Foster effective communication with colleagues and stakeholders to resolve defects and design/maintenance deficiencies in a timely manner
  • Liaise with senior management to address project engineering issues, design processes, and engineering change development
  • Coordinate with mission partners to ensure seamless integration of the facility into broader mission planning
  • Identify potential issues and areas for improvement within the VLF mission system
  • Participate in technical reviews and audits to maintain high standards of quality and safety
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians to enhance their skills and knowledge
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent qualification with experience in power generation or mechanical systems industries
  • A minimum of six years' experience in operational and/or in-service support phases of major programs, preferably in Defence technology and regional/remote power generation related industries
  • Detailed understanding of systems engineering, engineering support, maintenance support, and technical documentation disciplines
  • Knowledge of product life cycle and experience with system performance metrics
  • Strong skills in business and engineering applications
  • Ability to travel occasionally to support engineering investigations and training
  • Candidate must be eligible for an Australian defence security clearance
Desirable Experience:
  • Experience driving process improvements to enhance performance and efficiency
  • Willingness to pursue Chartered Professional Engineer status via Engineers Australia
