The Opportunity

The East Gippsland Shire Council is seeking a professional Ferry Operator to transport visitors and residents between Raymond Island and Paynesville.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for safely operating the ferry, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring the vessel is clean and hazard-free at all times.

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about delivering exceptional customer experiences and working in a dynamic, community-focused environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct pre-start vessel checks and daily maintenance to ensure the ferry is clean and safe for passengers
  • Collect fares and check ferry passes while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Effectively manage and de-escalate conflicts when necessary, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and courtesy
Requirements:
  • Hold a Victorian recreational marine license with the ability to obtain a Coxswain Grade 3 endorsement
  • Currently hold First Aid and CPR Certificates (HLTAID011 and HLTAID009A current)
  • Possess a valid Victorian driver's license

Candidates with skills in traffic control, knowledge of the McMillan Strait, and experience with marine engineering will be highly regarded. As part of the selection process, applicants must undergo a police check and pre-employment medical.
