Job Title: Maintenance Officer

Location: Lizard Island Research Station, Queensland

We are seeking a motivated individual to fill the role of Maintenance Officer at our research station. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring that buildings and equipment at the station are kept in a productive and safe state.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with outboard motors, small engines and/or pumps, and general building maintenance. You will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently with limited supervision.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

">
  • Maintaining plant and equipment at the Lizard Island Research Station">
  • Ensuring that buildings and equipment are kept to a high standard">
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning and inspecting equipment">
  • Assisting with repairs and maintenance of boats and other vehicles">
  • Providing support to researchers and staff as needed">

The successful candidate will have:

  • A strong background in maintenance and repair work">
  • Experience working in remote locations">
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills">
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision">
  • Current full driver's license and other relevant licenses (e.g. forklift operator's license)">

Essential Requirements:

  • Physically fit to perform strenuous manual work in a tropical environment">
  • Current full driver's license">

Key Knowledge and Experience:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills">
  • Experience working in remote locations">
  • Demonstrated experience in maintenance roles and/or relevant trade certificates">
  • Current forklift operator's license">
  • Current driver's license">
  • Current recreational boat operator's license or higher level boating qualification">
  • Outboard motor or diesel engine mechanic, electrical mechanic, plumber, welder, refrigeration mechanic, etc.">
  • Advanced first aid qualifications (at least first aid, CPR, oxygen resuscitation)">
  • Marine radio operator license">
  • Chainsaw license">
