Job Overview

We are seeking a senior legal professional to join our team as a Senior Principal Lawyer. As a key member of our organization, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of justice in Queensland.

Your primary responsibilities will include providing expert legal advice on complex employment, administrative, and government-wide matters that have a direct impact on decision-making at the highest levels.

Main Responsibilities:
  • You will partner with the General Counsel, Crown Law, and external service providers to ensure high-quality, value-for-money legal services.
  • As a trusted advisor, you will provide strategic guidance and manage sensitive litigation for the Attorney-General, Director-General, and other senior leaders, particularly in employment and administrative law.
  • You will be responsible for monitoring legal developments, anticipating risks, and advising on emerging issues affecting the department.
  • Additionally, you will review and endorse complex briefs and Cabinet submissions with legal implications.
  • You will also lead and develop a talented team of lawyers, creating an engaged, capable, and empowered workforce.
Requirements:
  • You should have extensive post-admission experience, ideally in employment and/or administrative law.
  • A strong track record of providing high-level legal advice in complex public sector or large-scale organizational settings is essential.
  • Strategic judgment, innovative thinking, and the ability to manage emerging legal and policy challenges are crucial.
  • Proven leadership in managing people and resources to deliver high-quality outcomes is mandatory.
  • A Bachelor of Laws and admission (or immediate eligibility for admission) as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland are necessary.
