While technical degrees are desirable, Defence also welcomes applicants with an interest in business and commerce, cyber security, engineering, information and communication technology, logistics and supply chain, and project management.

Salary Package

All successful candidates commence the Graduate Program on a salary of $79,176 plus 15.4% superannuation, increasing to $81,868 in March 2026. Graduates advance to higher salaries upon completing the Program.

Defence prioritises work-life balance through generous remuneration packages, flexible work arrangements, and leave benefits.

Locations

Candidates can expect to work in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney, and Williamtown.

Program Duration

The Graduate Program typically lasts between 12-18 months.

Areas of Interest

Candidates must nominate one area of interest from Cyber, Engineering, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Logistics, or Project Management.

  • Cyber: Support the implementation of Defence Cyber Security Strategy.
  • Engineering: Work on complex acquisition and sustainment projects, manage systems engineering activities, plan, facilitate, and assure confidence in delivery.
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT): Be part of the largest ICT network in Australia, support Defence operations worldwide, and access various opportunities across Defence.
  • Logistics: Provide logistics support throughout a project's life cycle.
  • Project Management: Work in diverse teams delivering nationally significant projects, experience unparalleled projects in size, cost, timescale, risk profile, and technological complexity.
