Key Role Overview

This leadership position is integral to the Admin Experience Group, tasked with revolutionising large-scale team administration on the platform. We cater to diverse customer needs, from classrooms to workplaces, and focus on creating features that empower users with flexible configuration and robust team management capabilities.


Core Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and evolution of scalable backend systems supporting admin experiences across various enterprise sizes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for system improvements and turn them into reliable solutions.
  • Mentor and support other engineers, promoting technical growth and excellence.
  • Shape admin user experiences by exploring product ideas, testing technical possibilities, and building solutions meeting large-scale organisational needs.
  • Help teams navigate ambiguity, guide technical direction, and bring clarity when the product scope evolves.
  • Champion operational excellence, resolving tricky backend issues, improving observability, and participating in the on-call rotation.
  • Guide architecture decisions for high-volume, high-data services, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and enterprise-ready.
  • Bring fresh thinking by staying updated on industry trends and sharing ideas that improve how products are built.

Required Expertise and Skills
  • Operated at Staff or Principal Engineer level with deep backend expertise in JVM-based languages like Java or Kotlin.
  • Designed and led backend strategies for large-scale distributed systems, optimised for availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Systems thinker who thrives in ambiguity, using sound judgment to drive clarity, navigate trade-offs, and align cross-functional teams on complex challenges.
  • Technical leader and multiplier, mentoring engineers, raising engineering standards, and championing scalable, maintainable practices across multiple teams.
  • Works seamlessly with senior stakeholders, shaping long-term technical direction, and influencing product strategy through strong partnerships.
  • Disciplined software development, including thoughtful architecture, testing, documentation, and clean code practices.
  • Skilled communicator translating evolving product goals into clear technical strategies and executable milestones.
  • Bonus: Experience with Protocol Buffers and hands-on experience with AWS services such as DynamoDB, SNS, and SQS.
