We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our Innovation and Energy Transition team as a Senior Engineer or Principal Engineer. This role will play a critical part in driving the transformation of Australia's electricity system, leveraging your technical expertise and creative problem-solving skills to develop innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct technical and commercial feasibility assessments of synchronous machine modifications, synchronous condenser services, and grid-forming batteries to ensure system strength.
- Lead engagements with non-network proponents, including NSW's largest existing generators and grid-forming battery proponents, and support commercial negotiations.
- Develop contracts and technical specifications for non-network proponents, including grid-forming batteries, for a new service, system strength, that has rarely been contracted for.
- Guide power system modellers and market modellers to ensure modelling answers the questions we have.
- Support the delivery of Transgrid's System Security Roadmap.
- Prepare business cases and economic justification to support regulatory approvals and capital investment decisions for infrastructure and services required to deliver the energy transition.
- Investigate future power system trends and opportunities, such as distributed energy resources, electric vehicles, renewable energy zones, and assess its implications on the transition of the power system.
- Monitor technological, market, and policy developments in the National Electricity Market and beyond, and assess its implications for Transgrid.
- Lead discussions with stakeholders to build long-lasting relationships with government bodies and industry groups, including AEMO and other transmission and distribution operators.
- Extensive technical experience in the electricity industry, including a strong background with electricity generation and new technologies such as grid-forming batteries.
- A creative and collaborative approach – eager to guide the energy transition.
- A strong communicator – willing to speak at industry forums and lead discussions with proponents, as well as being an effective writer.
- Excellent knowledge of the National Electricity Market, including rules, regulations, and government policies.
- Well-developed analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.
- Some commercial experience in the electricity industry is desirable.
- Tertiary qualifications at degree level in an appropriate discipline, including Engineering and Commerce degrees.
