Information for Specialist International Medical Graduates

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector, you must be an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status in Australia.

We welcome applications from SIMGs; however, appointment is limited by the requirement for a determination of Substantially Comparable. The RACGP/ACRRM fellowship assessment determines comparability to Australian-trained specialists in general practice. This assessment ensures compliance with Australian standards.

Information regarding pathways to becoming a registered practitioner in Australia is in the attached Application Guide.

Please Note: SIMGs under RACGP or ACRRM supervision will be placed on HSMP contracts until specialist registration is reflected on the AHPRA website.

Recruitment agencies presenting medical practitioners to WACHS must be a WACHS-approved supplier.

How to apply

Submitting an application is straightforward. Click MedCareers492538 and include the following with your application:

1. Application Form: Complete the online application form along with built-in Eligibility Criteria Questions. Do not attach a separate document addressing these questions.

- Provide a comprehensive summary of qualifications, training and experience, and illustrate how you meet the position requirements. If qualifications were obtained outside Australia, detail steps taken to become a registered medical practitioner (EC1, EC2, EC3).
- Provide a detailed explanation of teamwork and leadership capabilities with specific examples (EC4).
- Elaborate on experience in rural and Indigenous health and collaboration between general practice and/or emergency medicine (EC2).

*Please Note: Fellowship with the college is not required for HSMPs.

There will be additional sections for District Medical Officer – Procedural Anaesthetics or Obstetrics roles.

It is highly encouraged to read the attached application guide to ensure understanding of the process, which may differ from other recruitment processes.

2. A comprehensive CV in chronological order, with clear role durations and explanations for any gaps. This will assist in understanding your career progression.

Your application will be evaluated on your CV, responses, qualifications, skills, experience and SIMG outcomes (SIMGs only) against the work-related criteria.

Applications from practitioners with RACGP/ACRRM Fellowship or those in final year of RACGP/ACRRM training are encouraged. If you experience difficulties applying online, please contact MedCareersWA@health.wa.gov.au.
