Nurse Practitioner - Breast Oncology – Icon Cancer Centre Wesley, QLD

We have an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner who specialises in Breast Oncology to join our comprehensive cancer care and treatment centre at our Cancer Centre in the Wesley Hospital precinct. Working closely with our Oncologists, the Oncology Nurse Practitioner will provide individualised support to our patients, focusing on quality of life, throughout their treatment journey.

The practitioner will help patients manage treatment side-effects, disease related symptoms, as well as other co-morbidities. With consideration of each patient’s disease and treatment trajectory, the Nurse Practitioner guides patients through possible issues that may arise, providing management and prevention strategies as well as disease and treatment education and support.

Location: Icon Cancer Centre Wesley Medical Centre, L1/40 Chasely Street, Auchenflower

Hours: Permanent, Part-Time (64 hours/fortnight), Monday – Friday

Role Responsibilities

- Work closely with Icon Oncologists, receiving referrals and patient briefs for ongoing patient consultations.

- Respond to questions and concerns, discuss treatment goals, discuss fears/worries and generally educate patients to improve quality of life throughout treatment.

- Diagnose, educate and provide treatment for side effect related morbidities and disease related morbidities.

- Prescribe medications to patients to manage side effects symptoms.

- Undertake detailed investigations, including examinations and test ordering to understand the underlying factors for morbidities and patient concerns.

- Provide psychosocial support and refer to and coordinate with allied health specialists to ensure patients other needs are met.

- Demonstrate high level of clinical leadership, teamwork and development of workplace culture.

- Work closely with ICON oncologists, nursing and other staff members, sharing information to ensure appropriate patient care is always delivered.

- Maintain standard by ensuring best practice protocols and clinical guidelines are implemented and followed.

Skills and Experience

- Master of Nursing Science (Nurse Practitioner) or equivalent.

- Registered with AHPRA and possess a current practising certificate as a Nurse Practitioner.

- Several years Breast Specialty Nursing experience (Medical and Radiation ideally).

- Excellent communication and presentation is critical to establish rapport with our clients and patients.
