The Role
The Special Access Program Enabling Services (SAPES) Directorate has an opportunity for an experienced project manager to be involved in delivering capability in support of Special Access Programs (SAP). You will have exposure to a diverse range of activities, including capability planning, ICT systems implementation and management, and facilities projects.
The role focuses on managing a project in the capability planning and development stage, and taking the project through government approvals to implementation. You will operate independently and have the opportunity to lead and manage a team of committed professionals. We will provide you with flexibility in how you do your work, and will support you in your professional development. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a dynamic team environment, engage with a range of stakeholders, use initiative to solve problems and provide advice to senior leaders.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. For further information, please contact the contact officer.
About our Team
The Special Access Program (SAP) Branch within Force Integration Division is responsible for managing Defence's SAP framework. Our team works in a technically complex and challenging environment with members from the Australian Public Service, Australian Defence Force, other government agencies and industry. The capabilities supported are critical to the national defence effort. Elements of our team operate in a highly secure environment, and all parts are crucial to achieving Defence's primary mission.
Members of SAPES will have the opportunity to implement workplace arrangements to balance career goals with commitments and interests away from the workplace. We prioritise professional development and work with team members to support the achievement of their career objectives. We are a small team who have the privilege to support niche capabilities critical to Australia's national security, and see the benefits our work provides to our stakeholders.
Our Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will possess:
- Skills and experience in managing complex projects and managing a team to deliver capability outcomes.
- Experience in developing, implementing and managing project governance and assurance functions.
- Excellent communication and customer engagement skills, enabling them to work with a broad range of stakeholders both internal and external to Defence.
- The capacity to think strategically, identify improvement opportunities and prioritise effort.
- Drive and initiative.
