The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Drawing Office Manager to join our growing office team based in Brisbane CBD. As the Drawing Office Manager, you will report directly to the Engineering Manager.
You will be responsible for helping shape and support drafting operations, working closely with engineers, drafters and management to ensure alignment, overseeing strategic drafting operations and supporting the development of our drafting team. You will oversee and coordinate the recruitment and onboarding of drafting personnel, lead training initiatives for junior staff, and ensure robust CAD administration and software development practices are in place. You will also be responsible for monitoring drafting progress and productivity across multiple projects and disciplines.
A critical part of this role is acting as the bridge between drafting, engineering and management – ensuring disciplines are aligned, informed, and working collaboratively. You will facilitate communication, promote transparency, and help teams understand each other’s priorities, deliverables and constraints, while ensuring that interoffice shared projects are set up correctly for success.
Our current workload includes projects from traditional metals such as gold and base metals to the more complex battery mineral projects e.g. Lithium, graphite etc. and includes locations around the world. This role will be responsible for coordinating a multi‑discipline team with full accountability and understanding across Piping, Structural, Civil, Concrete, Electrical and Mechanical space.
Your typical day will consist of:
- Coordinating drafting activities across projects, studies and proposals
- Coordinating training and development of trainees and new starters, along with managing the recruitment drive for Brisbane office Draftspersons, trainees and checkers
- Driving safety and compliance through Safety in Design reviews and HSEC leadership, ensuring GRES standards and procedures are adhered to
- Oversee CAD systems, 2D/3D deliverables, liaising with CAD admins for efficient use of software packages
- Quality management, systems development and reporting
- Support drafting activities across mineral processing plant design
- Assist with drafting requirements in a multi‑disciplinary environment
- Engage in the performance management of the drafting team
Skills/Qualifications:
- Relevant industry Diploma
- Minimum 8+ years’ experience in a similar role (Senior/Lead drafting role)
- Must have working drafting knowledge and experience across multi‑disciplines i.e. Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Piping
- Previous experience in Mineral Processing design
- Demonstrated experience in training and mentoring junior drafting staff to build technical capability
- Strong communication (both oral and written) and the skills to report effectively and consistently
- Knowledge of drafting software systems, AutoCAD/Solid Edge is preferable
- Results driven with strong organisational and forward planning skills
- Current and unrestricted AU work rights
