About Our Role
Due to internal growth, Simplot are seeking applicants for the position ofField Assistantto join our Raw Procurement division based in Bathurst, regional NSW. Raw Procurement comprises farming and harvesting operations to support our annual sourcing of 450,000 tonnes of potatoes and vegetables in addition to leading innovative R&D activities throughout Australia and beyond.
Reporting to the Sweet Corn Specialist, in this permanent position - the Field Assistant will work closely with internal and external (crop growers) stakeholders to align with annual crop planting and harvesting plans relative to our sweet corn and brassica (e.g. broccoli / cauliflower) raw materials, whilst building on existing grower relationships.
In this varied role, the successful candidate will undertake weekly travel (by road - tools of the trade vehicle provided) to our growing areas within the Orana region (Dubbo / Narromine) and to the Forbes / Cowra areas, with monthly travel to our growing areas within QLD.
What You Will Do
- Work closely with the Sweet Corn Specialist in the management of contract growing operations
- Act as a first point of contact between Simplot and contract growers
- Assist with development of the annualplanting schedule in close conjunction with contract growers
- Assist with development of the annual harvest planto align with manufacturing activities
- Provide best practice advice to growers on cropping solutions
- Undertake regular visits to growing operations & manufacturing facility
- Provide regular communications / reporting to the wider Raw Procurement team with cropping data
- Contribute to Continuous Improvement (CI) activities
- Assist with general farm duties (e.g. tractor ops + fencing etc) during the off-season
About You
- 100% commitment to health, safety & wellbeing in the workplace
- Ag related tertiary qualifications (e.g. agronomy) in addition to exposure relative tocropping e.g. sweet corn, brassica, cereal crops will be highly regarded
- Possess a customer focused mindset, with the ability to build on long-term existing relationships with growers in addition to Simplot stakeholders
- Ability to self-start and work unsupervised
- Intermediate to advanced PC skills with demonstrated MS Office competencies
- Willingness to travel for work, incl. both road and air travel
- Possess a current C class drivers licence
- Chemcert + LF forklift licence would be advantageous (but not essential - training can be provided)
- Willingness to undergo a pre-employment medical (incl. urine based D&A screening)
