We are seeking a highly capable and motivated Senior Financial Accountant to join our Finance team. This role offers the opportunity to lead core financial functions and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. About the role Reporting to the Financial Controller, the role is responsible for leading the month-end process, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and taxation requirements. This role leads council’s financial services team in providing accurate and timely support of Council operations.

Key Accountabilities

- Manage the complete month-end process, ensuring the financial service team meets deadlines and producing high-quality working papers and reconciliations
- Responsible for lodgement and compliance with tax legislation including BAS and FBT
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements, notes and liaise with the Auditors.
- Ensuring compliance of statutory accounts with all relevant accounting standards including OLG Code of Accounting Practice.
- Oversee Accounts Payable to ensure timely and accurate payments to enable delivery of services.
- Maintain and update relevant systems databases to ensure accuracy and integrity of data sets, protocols, and controls.
- Lead and develop a small finance team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement
- Work in collaboration with and assist the team, manager, and other key stakeholders to achieve business unit goals, work requests, demands and Council priorities.

What we are looking for

- Ensures projects and tasks are completed on schedule and aligned with expected deliverables and standards.
- Implementing the decisions made by the governing body, General Manager and Directors of Council.
- Operates within Council-agreed strategic plans, statutory guidelines and legislation.
- Dealing with issues in a manner that maintains confidentiality and discretion.
- Identifying and resolving issues in a timely and customer focused manner.
- Delivering value for all stakeholders in an ethical, social, and environmentally responsible manner.

Essential Requirements

- Degree in Accounting or Commerce
- CPA or CA qualification
- Knowledge and understanding of the application of Australian Accounting Standards.
- Proven high level of written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership and motivation skills.
