The Role
BGC is seeking a Senior to Principal Geotechnical or Geological Engineer with experience in tailings management and tailings dam site investigation, design, analysis and construction support. They will work in a multidisciplinary team, leading tasks related to earth dam design and construction. The ideal candidate will be interested in advancing innovative practices while living BGC’s values.
This role is a full-time position based in Brisbane, Australia with opportunities to travel to our international offices and work on projects worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Act as a project engineer and technical lead for tailings projects
- Train, mentor, and supervise the work of junior and intermediate staff
- Manage projects, including budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and scope
- Author and co-author reports
- Participate in business development, including identifying new opportunities, promoting BGC’s capacity for undertaking innovative and advanced technical projects, and proposal writing
- Organize and supervise field programs, including: site investigation, construction, and dam safety inspections
- Work with client representatives
- Help promote BGC's vision, values, and culture amongst BGC staff and clients
- Travel as required, which could include extended shifts at remote sites
Required Education, Experience & Competencies
- Undergraduate degree in Civil or Geological Engineering
- Post-graduate degree is an asset
- 14-20 years of relevant work experience
- Registered (or eligible for registration) as an RPEQ
- Experience in tailings management
- Experience in tailings dam site investigation, design, or construction support
- Experience working within Australia’s regulatory and geological landscape
- Excellent communication skills
Position Requirements
Drug & Alcohol Testing
To ensure we meet our client’s compliance requirements and our workplace health and safety commitments, BGC has a drug and alcohol policy that applies to this position. The policy states that an employee may be required to take a drug and alcohol test prior to engaging in field work. This testing could be requested within an employee’s first week or in the future, as required. It is important to note that some clients also require random drug and alcohol testing, and/or testing in the event of a health and safety accident or incident.
Driver’s License
BGC requires employees to hold a valid, full driver/'s license in the jurisdiction where they will be employed. A Traffic History Report must be submitted upon hire. Employees must be able to drive a field pick-up truck. Employees are required to complete BGC Driver Training and a Driver Assessment.
