About the job
As the Aboriginal Heritage Adviser, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of capital and operational programs to manage risks to cultural heritage. This will include developing, reviewing and implementing corporate management frameworks to provide expert guidance in cultural heritage matters, and protection of Aboriginal heritage.
In this role, you will support SA Water's infrastructure delivery program and operational activities in line with relevant legislations and guidelines. Through this, collaboration with Aboriginal communities and other stakeholders will be important to success in this position. Building and maintaining positive relationships with various stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes will be a key focus for this role.
Your leadership in promoting cultural awareness and service excellence will be pivotal in safeguarding Aboriginal cultural heritage while supporting SA Water's objectives.
This role is for someone who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or someone who can demonstrate extensive experience in a similar role with a connection to First Nations Communities.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinating management frameworks and business process to ensure the appropriate management of Aboriginal heritage matters in line with legislative and policy requirements.
- Need to possess a thorough understanding of the relevant legislation pertaining to Aboriginal Heritage and Native Title.
- Providing timely and expert advice to SA Water and its contractors on Aboriginal heritage matters associated with construction and operational activities.
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with, and experience in, engaging with different Aboriginal communities.
- Assessing training and awareness needs for employees and contractors to ensure appropriate understanding of Aboriginal cultural and heritage matters.
- Driving the development and implementation of policies and strategies relating to Aboriginal cultural heritage.
- Contributing to the ongoing review and implementation of SA Water's Reconciliation Action Plan.
- Ability to successfully work across, collaborate with, a diverse team to deliver water and wastewater infrastructure efficiently and effectively.
Your success in this role will come from
- Tertiary qualification, or professional experience in this area.
- A current Australian driver’s license.
- Demonstrated understanding of Commonwealth and State legislation relevant to Aboriginal heritage.
- Strong knowledge, understanding and demonstrated experience in ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with First Nations People.
- Demonstrated understanding of issues specific to Aboriginal heritage management.
- Knowledge of the principles of environmental impact assessment and their interaction with Aboriginal heritage management would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of community engagement processes and practices.
