About the Role Nexus Division is seeking an accomplished Senior Data Engineer to architect, develop, and optimise high-performance data pipelines and analytical platforms supporting enterprise and government transformation projects.
You will play a key role in modernising data ecosystems—designing scalable ETL pipelines, orchestrating data flows between distributed systems, and leveraging cloud-native services to deliver reliable, secure, and insights-driven outcomes.
The ideal candidate will combine advanced technical skills with a strong understanding of data modelling, governance, and DevOps-enabled delivery in Agile environments.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain ETL and ELT pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and integration of large-scale structured and unstructured datasets.
Develop data models, schemas, and data warehouse solutions to support reporting, analytics, and machine-learning workflows.
Implement cloud-based data architectures using AWS or Azure data services (e.g., Glue, Redshift, S3, Lambda or Synapse, ADF).
Integrate data quality, metadata management, and version-control practices within the delivery pipeline.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Data Science, Software Engineering, and BI teams) to deliver enterprise-wide data solutions.
Apply DevOps principles—automating deployment, monitoring, and testing through CI/CD pipelines.
Optimise data processing performance through partitioning, indexing, and pipeline monitoring.
Manage stakeholder expectations and translate business requirements into technical specifications.
Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and governance standards.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior data engineers and analysts.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent AQF qualification).
Experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience in data engineering, ETL development, and data pipeline architecture.
Proven track record in building and optimising large-scale data solutions within cloud or hybrid environments.
Technical Competencies
Languages & Frameworks: Python, SQL, PySpark, Scala (optional).
ETL & Orchestration: Airflow, AWS Glue, ADF, DataBricks.
Cloud Platforms: AWS, Azure, GCP (experience with at least one major platform required).
Data Visualization: Power BI or Tableau for dashboard integration.
Version Control: Git, GitHub / Bitbucket.
CI/CD & DevOps: Jenkins, Terraform, CloudFormation (desirable).
Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake, Redshift or Synapse.
Data Governance & Security: IAM, encryption, data masking best practices.
Desirable Skills
Experience with data modelling for analytics and reporting use cases.
Knowledge of streaming technologies (Kafka, Kinesis, or Event Hub).
Familiarity with machine-learning data pipelines or feature stores.
Understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
Certification in AWS Data Analytics or Azure Data Engineer Associate is highly advantageous.
